For those who have conceal carry permits

Be careful!

Bathroom Break Ends in Bang

CENTERVILLE, Utah (AP) The man escaped with a few cuts to his arm, but the toilet made out much worse.

Police say a man's gun fell out of its holster while he pulled up his pants after using the bathroom at a Carl's Jr. restaurant Tuesday. The gun fired when it hit the floor and shattered the commode.

A few shards of porcelain cut the man's arm, and a woman in an adjacent restroom who was frightened by the noise reported she was having chest pain. Both people were checked at the scene and released.

Police say they confiscated the 26-year-old man's firearm while they review the incident. The man had a concealed weapons permit. No charges are being filed.

Yeah, it's certainly an enlightening experience the first time you drop trou in a public toilet with your in-the-pants holster. Something most folks don't think about until the moment arrives. Wouldn't be hard at all to dump your rig on the floor in a moment of extreme urgency.

While I don't make a habit of frequenting public restroom stalls, my main concern is some yahoo seeing my rig from under the door and doing the red alert thing. That makes me take my time and think about what I'm doing.

I have a Glock, couldn't happen. Matter of fact it couldn't happen on most modern designs, there is a mechanism that shields the firing pin from being struck unless the trigger is pulled all the way.

I don't know the 70 series. If it is like most 1911's, theoretically not, there is the grip safety but I'd be nervous about trusting it.

I have carried a Glock in an in the pants holster, and once after getting out of my vehicle the gun had worked it's way up and out of the holster without my noticing it. It fell out and I managed to grab it before it hit the street. It wouldn't have fired, but the potential embarassment and police problems if anyone had noticed made me rethink my carry options. I now use only holsters with retention straps.

Sure....blame it on the poor innocent gun, when in reality it was just some backed up chili from Carl Jr's, and this guy used the pulling up his pants and the gun fell out story.
Thruth be known, he shot to toilet AFTER the damage was already done.....

That's my story and I'm sticken to it.

This incident will be reported to the New Attorney General.

If you're incapable of taking a piss without accidentally discharging your gun...probably shouldn't be carrying.

Yes, the AG must be briefed on what happened when the guy in the bathroom debriefed.

Didn't this incident happen months ago? Or has it happened again?

You've obviously never heard of glock leg :tongue_ma:

But, besides that "rare" incident, you're right, all guns must be manufactured in a way that they pass drop test(from 10 feet, on to the hammer) and have a firing pin blocking device.

HOWEVER, this gentleman may have modded his gun to subvert such saftey features. Unlikley, but possible.

Using a coat hanger or something he probably engaged the trigger while trying to fish the gun out of the water/contents. Not a good day.
